UMOSPOC rally boosted with sh35m

HOIMA - The Kabalega  UMOSPOC rally has been boosted with sh35m sponsorship from SBI International construction company. The event is scheduled for September 6-9 in Hoima district.

The package was unvieled on Tuesday during a press briefing held at the company offices in Hoima.

The function was presided over by the Bunyoro Kingdom Prime Minister, Andrew Byakutaga who promised support to the event.

"I know, sports especially motorsport, comes with a lot of opportunities in the area and we as a Kingdom shall fully throw our weight behind UMOSPOC and FMU every year," Byakutaga said.

"We also request the business community to emulate SBI and support this event so that it grows bigger and better annually so that they can also reap big from it," he added.

SBI manager Daniel Kisseka also promised continued support to the Kabalega rally and also urged the organisers to observe safety and protect the environment during the event.

"We are committed to continued sport of the Kabalega rally as one way of giving back to the community and we call upon the residents to take advantage of this rally and benefit from it," Kisseka said.

FMU President Dusman Okee lauded SBI and Bunyoro Kingdom for the support to the event.

He also called upon the people of Bunyoro to be cautious of their safety and stay away from the rally cars.

The edition of the Kabalega rally is the second last event on the National Rally Championship calendar.

Twenty five drivers including, defending champion Hassan Alwi, Ronald Ssebuguzi, Dr. Ashraf Ahmed, Suzan Muwonge, Timothy Gawaya and Jas Mangat have confirmed their development.

Jas Mangat leads the NRC with 305 points, 15 ahead of Ronald Ssebuguzi (290) and Suzan Super Lady Muwonge is in third position with 245points.

The event co-sponsored by SBI International, World Wide Movers, Grand Praclos Hotel, Miika Eco Resort Hotel, Kontik Hotel, Club TNT, Hoima Resort Hotel, Rose foam mattresses, Elpa Uganda, Fire and Safety appliances and Riham covers 286km of which 100 is transport section.
