Lubega optimistic ahead of the UBO contest

KAMPALA - Uganda's pro-light heavyweight champion Joey Vegas Lubega has vowed to knock out Tanzania's Kalama Nyilawila as they battle for the Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) World Cruiser weight title.

"I have been in boxing for long and am very confident that the title will stay in Uganda, I have been training hard for this fight and wish to teach these Tanzanian's that Uganda has got boxing talents," said Lubega during a presser at Kati Kati gardens.

Lubega is has a professional record of 11 wins (4 KO's),5 losses and 1 draw, he was formerly the British Masters Super Middle weight title holder and in 2009 he held current British and former Commonwealth light heavy weight.

His opponent Nyilawila is Tanzania's cruiser weight champion. He joined professional boxing a year after Lubega in 2005.

The two boxers have all tested European boxing. However, Lubega carries a richer boxing history than his counterpart.

During the press conference, the A&B Promotions Director, Acram Iga also unveiled Urban TV as the main sponsors of the event.

He said that they will work very closely with Urban TV under their umbrella company Vision Group to promote the sport.

"We are here to clear the image of boxing and boxers where boxers will start earning from the sport and with Vision Group we shall move miles and also call upon other corporate companies to support the sport," said Iga.

Nicholus Buule and Hudson Muhumuza will also fight for the Uganda National Heavy weight title while there will be other six under cards.
