The four women were elected unopposed

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has won the four seats that were up for grabs in the Women in Development race.

According to the presiding officer, Abel Ekodai, all four were elected unopposed.

At the Jinja district council hall on Monday, Hajjati Norah Musiitwa from Kakira town council was declared chairperson with Evelyn Alitwala from Buwenge as her deputy.

Others are Juliet Rhoda Namuganza from Walukuba as treasurer, Irene Kanyago from Mpumudde/Kimaka as publicity secretary and Loy Katali as the secretary for the committee.

"We should stop lamenting about husbands abandoning us in homes and living in poverty. It is high time we embrace government programs in unity and also work with grassroots leaders to empower ourselves," Musiitwa said.

She also cautioned them over forming small groups where they only gossip and burden their children for help.

Kanyago called on President Yoweri Museveni to consider sending help through the right channels so as to avoid the misuse of government funds and programs.

Namuganza asked for guidance from other leaders so that they can work together as a group.
