MBARARA - Mbarara Municipal health centre IV received a consignment of assorted medical equipments from Rotary Club of Mbarara over the weekend.

These equipment included, ten modern beds to be used in the post operation ward, a mobile sanction machine, a speculum, three sterlisation drums, pressure machine, digital weighing scale, a pulseoxymeter among others.

Dr Alfred Mugalula, the medical officer for Municipal health centre IV said that they have been having a challenge of medical equipments at the unit especially beds in the post operation ward which had stopped them from carrying out operations.

Mugalula said earlier, the hospital only had only three beds which would be very difficult for them to start operating patients especially the mothers in labour.

"When you visit our theatre its very good, well equipped but we have been having a challenge of beds in the post operation ward, there is no way we would operate patients without beds because an operated mother takes a minimum of three days to get better, we realised that operating patients with only three beds would cause more problems.

"So am greateful that we have received these 10 beds from Rotary club of Mbarara and now we shall start to operate patients."

Mugalula asked government to fully support and equip the health centre with more medical equipments to reduce on the congestion of patients at the regional referral hospital.

Frankline Karokora, the president Rotary Club, Mbarara noted that during the rotary run in Mbarara, they managed to raise sh14.8m of which all was used to purchase the consignment.

"We are happy that the main cause of the rotary run which was meant to reach out to this health unit has been achieved, as rotary, we shall keep on supporting our communities," Karokora said.

Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi, the Mbarara Municipality Mayor warned health workers to ensure these equipments are handled with care and serve their intended purpose.
