Teso gets sh345.4m boost from Irish Government

TESO - War On Want -Northern Ireland (WOWNI) on Tuesday signed a sh345.4m partnership agreement with five Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) operating in Teso sub-region.

Morukakise Integrated Development Association (MIDA) Ngora received Sh12.7, Kaberamaido Operation Save the Needy (KOSAN) got sh141m, Katakwi Conserve Uganda  (KCU) sh167m, Olilim Rural Farmers' Association (ORUFA) Katakwi sh11.9m while Eganganaros Build Tomorrow Group Kaberamaido sh12.6m.

The Irish Aid funded partners will use the funds they have received for implementing a strengthening livelihood, nutrition and climate resilience project for the period of one year starting August 1, 2018 to July 31, 2019. 

Esther Ainyo, the Programme Manager WOWNI said the partners will implement both on-farm and off farm activities.

"They will be supported with farm inputs, training on agricultural related activities, advocacy and implement irrigation for growing vegetables among others," said Ainyo.

The agreement was signed with partners at WOWNI  Uganda Country Office located at Soroti Municipality.

Stephen Akonyu, the WOWNI regional Manager in Charge Uganda and Malawi said more funds will be added to the partners that have benefited if they implement the project as expected.

He said the donors are expected to visit the funded partners within this year so that they see the progress of the implementation of the project that they have supported.

 Irish aid funded partners are expected to work closely with the district authorities including the farmer groups, to submit the financial reports to WOWNI before July 31, 2019  and to have safeguarding policies.  

Some of benefiting partners expressed happiness as the money will help the lower people improve their livelihood.
