Ashanti King graces coronation anniversary

Ashanti King Asantehene Osei Tutu II is the chief guest at the 25th anniversary of the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi. 

The king came at the invitation of the kabaka, who is celebrating his anniversary at Bulange, Mengo on Tuesday.


Who is he?

Born on May 6, 1950, the Asantehene, is the 16th Asantehene, traditional ruler of the Kingdom of Ashanti in Ghana since April 26, 1999. By name, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is in direct succession to the founder of the Empire of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tutu

He was named Nana Barima Kwaku Duah, the youngest of the five children of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, Asantehemaa (Queen-mother of the Ashanti). His father Nana Kwame Boakye-Dankwa was from Kantinkyere in Ashanti and was also the Brehyia Duke of Asante. Nana Kwame Boakye-Dankwa died on January 1, 2002, in Kumasi, Ashanti.


Osei Tutu has six children. His father had other offspring from other marriages, including Yaw Boateng, Kwaku Duah, Kwabena Agyei-Bohyen, Afua Sarpong and Ama Agyemang (Kumasi, Ashanti), Fredua Agyeman Prempeh, Nana Kwasi Agyemang Prempeh and Nana Kwasi Boachie Gyambibi (Kumasi, Ashanti).

Emperor Asantehene Osei Tutu II's name at birth, Nana Barima Kwaku Duah, is the name of the Asante emperor's paternal grandfather.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is Africa's fifth richest king according to estimations by Forbes. The King of Asante is estimated to be worth $10 million and his source of wealth, according to Forbes, is from mining equipment, property and jewelry.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II came behind King Mswati III, Swaziland; Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Ile-Ife, Nigeria; Oba Obateru Akinrutan, Ugbo Land, Nigeria; King Mohammed VI, Morocco in the ranking.

King Mohammed VI, Morocco was named Africa's richest king with an estimated net worth of $2 billion. He made his wealth from investments.
