FDC wins Bugiri municipal polls

 

 

 

 

Luba got 3,629 votes against his closest rival, Ayoub Kisubi Mulikiriza of NRM, got 3,529 votes.

 

Five people contested for the Bugiri municipal council mayoral race.

 

Luba, who had for four times before contested for the LC 5 seat Bugiri and lost, was announced winner by the district returning officer Bugiri, Christine Kunihira on July 28.

 

He promised to tackle the issue of corruption amongst government officials at the municipality besides improving on the infrastructure such as roads as one of his main priority areas during the two years he will be in office.

 

Luba also promised to lobby investors to set up income-generating projects to provide employment opportunities to the youth in the area.

 

He urged his political opponents to co-operate with him to ensure they develop the area instead of engaging in wrangles.

 

On the other hand, the loser,  Ayoub Kisubi Mulikiriza of NRM, has conceded defeat in the just concluded parliamentary and mayoral elections.

 

Mulikiriza,while addressing the media, hailed supporters for the enormous  effort that almost made him achieve his target of becoming the first mayor of Bugiri municipal council.

 

He urged the winner not to view him as an enemy, but instead consult him where necessary in order to develop the area.

"We should not look at each other as big enemies because both of us need each other to develop the area," he said.

 

The Bugiri NRM chairman, Stephen Mutumba, said the party was working hard to ensure that they improve on what could have caused the defeat of the two high positions to the Opposition ahead of the 2021 polls.

 

Mutumba said though the party had lost the two high positions in the district, it managed to get 10 other positions for councilors, which were taken by the ruling NRM party.
