Climate change campaigners walk 10kms across Mabira

The walk is aimed at changing Ugandans’ attitude and promote positive approaches to life with the changing climate.

MABIRA - Climate change campaigners are set for a walk in Mabira forest reserve on Saturday, July 28, according to the Walkers Association of Uganda.

Geoffrey Walker Ayeni, the President of Walkers Association of Uganda said the walk in Mbaira is aimed at changing Ugandans' attitude and promote positive approaches to life with the changing climate.

"We want to promote healthy living, create awareness on the impact of climate change, and encourage simple sustainable practices to conserve the environment and redeem our mother earth," Ayeni told New Vision in an interview.

The walk dubbed ‟Walk Uganda in one hour for Climate Change," is expected to start at Mabira Eco site on the side facing Jinja and will be concluded at Oryx Petrol station on the part of Mabira facing Kampala.

The walkers are targeting to along Kampala-Jinja Highway in Mabira forest (a distance within 10kms) in less than one hour.

In addition to the Walkers Association of Uganda, institutions and climate change activists will participate in the 10kms walk across the biggest forest in central Uganda.

The institutions include Ministry of Water and Environment, Parliamentary Climate Change Forum, National Forestry Authority, Care International Uganda, International Union for Conservation Nature (IUCN), National Association of Professional Environmentalists, Ecological Christian Organisation and National Environment Management Authority.
