Nabuyoga town council on tension ahead of today's elections

ELECTION VIOLENCE
Tension is high in Nabuyoga town council in Tororo district ahead of Tuesday elections following constant clashes that has left a number of people injured with others admitted in Tororo main hospital.
The clashes is between a camp supported by West Budama south MP Jacob Oboth and those of the rival camp in the LCIII chairperson's position and district councillor representative.
Oboth, who is being escorted by three Police officers and a military soldier and moving in a convoy of his supporters on a numberless military lorry, was on Sunday evening involved in bloody clashes that left the former district chairman Emmanuel Osuna and former parliamentary candidate Lazarus Oketch injured.
Both Osuna and Oketch were once very close friends to Oboth having studied and lived together under one roof.
Oboth supports Opendi Nicholas an NRM candidate for Nabuyoga TC LCIII seat against his arch rival Joseph Ochieng who is contesting under FDC party after he lost in the NRM primaries.
For district councillors, Oboth supports Julius Oketcho, an independent candidate. Others in the race include Olweny John Mark of NRM who is being backed by Osuna and Oketch, Odwar Francis a retired inspector of schools and Waswa Chairach.

Odongo, who is feeling a lot of pain, reported a case of assault against his tormentors at Nabuyoga Police Post under SD 19/22/07/2018.
Osuna accused Oboth of using his position and the security escorts to terrorise the civilian community. He wondered what would happen if Oboth was given an armored.
Attempts to contact Oboth for a comment were futile as all his known mobile phones were off by press time.
The Police confirmed the development, saying they are prepared to ensure there is peaceful free and fair elections.
