The national electoral commission will finally hold LC polls on July 10
President Yoweri Museveni has urged National Resistance Movement (NRM) MPs to drum up support for the party flag-bearers in the forthcoming Local Council (LC) 1 elections.
Museveni, who is also NRM national chairman, made the appeal on Wednesday, while meeting the NRM parliamentary caucus at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala.
This was shortly after meeting MPs from across the political divide to discuss matters of security.
“The President urged us to go down to our constituencies and mobilise voters to support our candidates in the LC1 elections. He wants our flag-bearers to win the elections,” a source who attended the closed-door meeting said.
The national electoral commission will finally hold LC polls on July 10 to elect village and parish leaders after a hiatus of 17 years.
