Awful smell engulfs downtown Kampala

Jun 08, 2018

The unpleasant smell forced some pedestrians to hold their noses with handker-chiefs as they rushed to catch nearby bus and taxis to their destinations.

Irritating smell occupied the air after a sewage system gave way splashing human waste flooding along Allen Road, near Qualicell Bus Park in the centre of Kampala.

However, the horrible smell didn't deter both food vendors and customers to transact business.

Little kids from school looked scared as they came face to face with horrific situation some might be seeing for the first time.

The unpleasant smell forced some pedestrians to hold their noses with handker-chiefs as they rushed to catch nearby bus and taxis to their destinations.

Due to the awful smell some passersby were heard cursing Kampala Capital Authority (KCCA) and  National Water Sewage Corporation (NSWC) for causing the uncomfortable situation.

But to the business people, there was no cause for bother. They kept to their businesses, selling fruits, vegetables, bread and other food items without raising eyelids and any hassle.

The flood of human waste on the street happened during rush hour in the evening 7.00pm as office workers and other people were leaving the city to their residential areas.
