Battle lines drawn for Rukungiri vote

May 28, 2018

Political heavy-weights have camped in Rukungiri to canvass support for their sides. Apart from Yoweri Museveni, former presidential candidate Kizza Besigye has also camped in the district.

As the people of Rukungiri prepare to choose their Woman MP come Thursday, the district is a beehive of activity as two camps set base there to canvass support for their candidate.

The pomp....

President Yoweri Museveni led the NRM group in a grand campaign held in four rallies, covering the sub-counties of Rukungiri. His coming to the district was met with fanfare and jubilation.

FDC too did not take chances. They picked who they thought was their best. And this is none other than the four time presidential candidate and former party president Col. Kizza Besigye. Being the strongest man they had and who happens to hail from the district an added advantage.

The rallies...

President Yoweri Museveni rallied the people and had massive reception at all the rallies he addressed.

FDC also gathered its supporters.

The big wigs...

While NRM gathered all the big wigs in the district including Jim Muhwezi, Henry Tumukunde and Paula Turyahikayo...

FDC also gathered hers. These included Roland Mugume and many others

And the support of the outsiders came in handy.

NRM took Richard Todwong, deputy Secretary General

....while FDC took many MPs from other areas including leader of opposition and Kasese Woman MP Winnie Kiiza.

....and the elections seemed to have united the opposition. While Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has been a distance from the mainstream FDC, he was at campaign rallies

With massive turn out for all the rallies, the Thursday vote seems too close to call...
