EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The proposed 2018/19 education sector budget has a total of 659 job openings at the different universities and the ministry headquarters.
According to the sectors Ministerial Policy Statement, Makerere University has been cleared to fill 187 positions against the 1347 vacancies, Busitema University (50 against the 456 vacancies), Gulu University (127 against 158 vacancies), Muni University (26 against 63 vacancies), Kyambogo University (135 against 216 vacancies), Uganda Management Institute (33 against 46 vacancies), Lira University(129 against 215 vacancies), Kabale University(93 against 572 vacancies), Soroti University( 3 against 75 vacancies) and 51 against 80 vacancies at the ministry headquarters.
The vacancies at the different institutions cover both teaching and non-teaching staff. The ministry's headquarters for instance, is looking for an artist, assistant librarian, assistant commissioners, a communication officer, driver, information scientist, policy analyst, telephone operator among others.
Next financial year, the education sector will take up 11.39% gaining a few points from the current financial year's share of 11.37%. This is about sh2.6 trillion from the current year's sh2.5 trillion.
