Landslides hit Manafwa residents

The landslides affected mostly homes in Bunasirwe village, Buweswa parish and Weswa sub-county after striking some villages in neighbouring Kato sub-county.

NATURAL DISASTER 
 
MANAFWA - Landslides have hit several homesteads in Weswa sub-county of Manafwa district after heavy rains pounded the area throughout the night on Tuesday.
 
According to the district councilor, Jenifer Mwenyi, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning at 10.00a.m while residents went about their normal work.
 
Mwenyi said the landslides affected mostly homes in Bunasirwe village, Buweswa parish, Weswa sub-county after striking some villages in neighbouring Kato sub-county.
 
"The house of Fred Nabukalasi was completely buried by the landslides but his family escaped without injuries,"Mwenyi told New Vision in a telephone interview on Wednesday afternoon.
 
She said several gardens have been destroyed and residents have been forced to flee to neighbouring villages for fear of their lives.
