SHEEMA- Candidates for the Sheema Municipality MP seat want the minister for minister of science, technology and innovation Elioda Tumwesigye banned from the district until NRM flag bearer elections are concluded.

The seven candidates, who include Geoffrey Mucunguzi, Jonas Tumwine and Joseph  Mwebesa were nominated on May 9, 2018 at Sheema NRM offices. They accuse Tumwesigye of trying to irregularly get nominated, saying he has pinned posters bearing NRM logo within Sheema municipality.

Sheema is one of the towns that attained a municipality status in July 2016 and became operational this year.

"We have learnt that the NRM Electoral Commission (EC) intends to re-open nominations (specially) to allow Hon. Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye to be nominated contrally to regulation 10(3)  NRM EC for Primary elections 2015," reads part of the letter addressed to Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM EC Chairman.
They accuse Elioda of trying to contest in the municipality, yet he is a Member of Parliament for Sheema North.

They also demanded that Sheema district NRM election team be disbanded with immediate effect and a team be supervised by the party's EC senior officials to oversee the electoral exercise.

According to NRM road map, the polling day for selection for flag-bearers is May 31, whereas the general election according to the Electoral Commission is July 19.
