MOTHERS' DAY

KAMPALA- The Bishop Emeritus of Lugazi Catholic Dioceses, the Rt Rev Mathias Ssekamanya has commended mothers for the important role they play in the Church and society.

"It is because of my mother that I am what I am. Further to carrying us in their wombs for nine months, our mothers also feed us, clean and teach us religion and morals. If my mother had not taken me to Church, I wouldn't have seen the Catholic priests, whom I admired and later decided to join the seminary. Let us love the mothers and also respect them," Ssekamaanya said.

He was presiding over the Kampala Archdiocesan Mother's Day celebrations at Rubaga Cathedral on Sunday. The celebrations, which were organised by the Catholic Women's Guild of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, were also graced by Fr Joseph Mary Bbuye, the administrator of the Cathedral.

Further during his sermon, Bishop Ssekamaanya asked the Catholic mothers and all women to shun immoral behaviour which disgrace women. He singled out rumor-mongering, indecent dressing and marital unfaithfulness as some of the undesirable immoral tendencies that women have to shun.

Ssekamanya later condemned the mistreatment, harassment, violence, kidnappings and outright murder of women that is rampant in society. He called on the Government to protect the mothers and also ensure that they live in peace and under ample security.

The function was graced by hundreds of women from the various affiliate parishes of Kampala Archdiocese.
