Artistes warned against redoing Mowzey Radio's songs

The management of Goodlyfe through their lawyers, Katende, Ssempebwa and Co advocates, solicitors and legal consultants has asked musicians not to reproduce Mowzey Radio and Weasel's songs without authorisation.

"It has come to our notice that several persons have started to reproduce substantial parts and also recompose musical works of the late Moses Ssekibogo also known as Mowzey Radio without the license of the copyright owner," the notice by the lawyers reads.

Emotions, one of the Managers at Goodlyfe expressed that the reason for doing this is to protect the works of Radio and Weasel.

"The rate at which some people were redoing the music without authorisation was getting out of hand. And some were really doing a very bad job at it; something we perceived as injustice to the great star Radio was," Emotions explains.

According to him, this is not only targeting the upcoming artistes but also the already established ones. "These artistes are doing the music and gaining from it but the family of the late is not benefiting from such yet we agreed that all proceeds from Radio's music would be for their benefit," he expresses. 

He advises that artistes that would like to re-do the songs should approach the management of Goodlyfe and get authorization. 

In the notice, media houses have also been warned against running adverts using compositions of Radio and Weasel without authorisation.

According to the notice, reproduction of a copyright work involves resemblance to the actual production. 

"The copyright owner will not hesitate to invoke the strong arm of the law against any persons or institution that are infringing on the musical works of the late Mowzey Radio," the lawyers warn.
