Soana Football Club has terminated the contract of their head coach Alex Isabirye and his assistant Katono Mutono.

Isabirye and Mutono were told to step aside following the team's winless run in the Azam Uganda Premier League, according to club chairman Smart Obedi.

The Kavumba-based side have gone five games without a win.

"I have no problem with my sacking since the team was not doing well," Isabirye said.

"Sacking coaches at Soana is not the solution since its the club chairman who decides which players join Soana and that has made it difficult for  coaches to do their job."

Isabirye joined Soana on a one-year contract three months ago from Nyamityobora of Mbarara.

In the 12 league games with Soana, Isabirye managed two wins, drew three and lost seven.

However, he guided Soana to the second round of the Stanbic Uganda Cup before they were eliminated in the round of 16 by KCCA.

Soana are now12th in the league on 28 points, two above the relegation zone.

Goalkeeping coach Abu Kigenyi remains in charge on interim basis until a new coach is appointed.
