According to Kayima, the joint operation was conducted early Saturday morning “at Usafi Mosque in Kisenyi and other locations in and around Kampala.”

Police alongside other security agencies have Saturday morning shot dead two people who tried to resist an arrest of a suspect.

Security was following a suspect in the murder of Susan Magara, who was kidnapped and killed early this year.
The suspect ran to Usafi Mosque in Kisenyi after learning that security was closing in on him, according to Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima.
Howwever, two armed people attacked security and they were killed.

Kayima says in the mosque, they found 18 women and 94 children of different nationalities who had been kept there for unspecified period of time. The Police is making arrangements to hand over the rescued children and women to their relatives.

He says 36 suspects were arrested and are under police custody.
He says the children looked scared and traumatized. "We have taken custody of these children. We shall at the moment be looking after them until we can reconnect them with their parents," he adds.

While addressing the press at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala this afternoon, internal affairs minister Jeje Odongo says it was sad the raid was in the mosque, in a place of worship.

"This is an ongoing operation and when we have facts, we will be able to tell if there are political implications," he says.
