The World Badminton Federation's initiative to promote para-badminton across the African continent has started in high gear with a three day workshop and training at the Lugogo indoor arena, Lugogo, Kampala.

The initiative is intended to promote disability sport and also prepare players for the inaugural badminton competition at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in Japan.

BWF are hosting the training in collaboration with the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA).

According to CEO, Simon Mugabe, the course will also improve the player's techniques.

"We expect the players to gain a lot from this workshop and I just hope that they apply whatever they will have learnt in the upcoming tournaments," he said.

He added that the three days event will also help unclassified athletes to know which group they belong to.

The Africa project has attracted over 50 participants from Uganda, Kenya, Cameroon, Egypt and DR Congo.
