Save for old age, lawyers advised

"Don’t chew more than you can bite. You are great as you are and greatness comes from humility..."

The newly elected President of Uganda law Society (ULS), Simon Peter Kinobe has advised lawyers to live within their means in a bid to make some saving for retirement.

Kinobe, who took over office early this month from Francis Gimara, noted that it's quite unbearable to see a 70-80-year-old lawyer still going to office every day to hunt for bread.

"There is no need to present yourself for what you are not which is very wrong. I tell my young lawyers and young people that you don't need to prove yourself. Live within your means, cut your clothes according to your ability. Don't chew more than you can bite. You are great as you are and greatness comes from humility. Greatness comes from knowing your status and working towards improving it. These get quick fix, and leave large do not work. I discourage that habit. Let's build economic success on a foundation of hard work, competence and resilience," he said.

Kinobe added that to help lawyers secure their future, ULS is encouraging them to invest.

"We have also started a saving scheme to allow our members save," he said. "I want to be remembered as a President who helped lawyers to flourish."

Kinobe made the remarks during an exclusive interview with the New Vision. He said he has also already started preparing for his retirement to avoid grassing during old age.
