Kyambogo headmistress passes on

Ministry of Education has confirmed receiving reports that Kyambogo College School headmistress has died.

Patrick Muinda, the Assistant Commissioner Communication and Information Management told New Vision that they have internally learnt about Mrs. Annie Makaaru Tumwesigye's death.

"We are now waiting for the official communication from the school which we shall have within the next 45 minutes," Muinda said. "But this is very sad."

The news of the passing on of Tumwesigye flooded social media platforms on Thursday morning. Sources said she passed on at 9:00pm a few hours after leaving her office at 7:00pm.

There are reports that she was entangled in a bitter wrangle with a cross section of parents and teachers at the school prior to her death. 

The New Vision has learnt she died of high blood pressure.

Tumwesigye's former students at Mbarara High School in Western Uganda were she taught literature before becoming headteacher have described her as one of the best subject teachers Uganda has ever produced.

"She was my favorite teacher. She taught literature like no other I have ever met. We still have fond memories of her lessons and we jazz about them every time we meet. I have no doubt many others appreciate her that way," said Katuramu Mwinemwisigwa.
