Injured rally driver Andrew 'Desh' Kananura has urged sponsors to ssupport upcoming rally drivers, if they are to compete in the East African region.

The soft spoken driver who recently acquired a powerful Mitsubishi Evol 10 R4 Plus, said this while referring to the small number of local drivers who have represented the country on the continent.

"It is ideally right to say that Ugandan rally drivers have passion for the sport, but they are undone by the expenses. We have annual budgets of about 100,000 to 200,000 euros (about shs600m) as opposed to our African rivals with over $2m (about shs7b). If we are all to compete favourably, sponsors should come in and give a hand," revealed Kananura who vowed to return to action during the Fort Portal rally.

He missed the Jinja and Mbarara rallies with a damaged foot.

"Currently, I am taking alot of pain killers to heal my foot and I will return in Fortal Portal, I will show my rivals that I am the best rally driver in Uganda," he said

Kananura's best finish locally came last year during the Jinja rally show when finished third behind Jas Mangat and Ronald Ssebuguzi.

He also finished third during the 2015 Rwandan race.
