Ssekandi said the Government supports all ways and means through which households will improve their earnings

The Vice-President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has said the Government's biggest concern is how to facilitate Ugandans to raise money for their household activities, save and also meet education needs for their children.

He said the Government supports all ways and means through which households will improve their earnings adding that cottage and community based projects aimed at value addition are some of the best systems through which households can improve their incomes and sustainably contribute to the national economy.

Ssekandi who was speaking in Masaka after laying a foundation stone for a coffee factory at Kamuzinda said Uganda can attain the middle-income status in the shortest time possible if its farming population can be involved in value addition especially at household and community levels.

He commended Busiro Central Youth Link for setting up a coffee factory which he said will go a long way in improving their entrepreneurship skills and provide more employment to those who will be both directly and indirectly involved in the activities of the factory.

Ssekandi also commended Dr. David lolobo of the Xsabo foundation that is partnering with the Busiro Youth in establishing the coffee coffee factory aimed at generating income among the youth by promoting farming and value addition.

Dr. Lolobo said that the Xsabo foundation will provide the initial 123 million shillings which he said will increase to over 160 million shillings by the fifth year employing about 100 youth while several others will benefit from the company auxiliary activities.

The project was sourced by the office of the Vice President in conjunction with Uganda coffee authority as part of support to the youth. Bukoto youth Link has already received over 400,000 coffee seedlings for its 2,500 members and will be extended to other areas of the country.
