UGANDA LAW SOCIETY ELECTIONS


WAKISO - Simon Peter Kinobe was over the weekend elected new Uganda Law Society (ULS) president for the tenure that will last one year. He was sworn in by Lady Justice Solome Bossa, who was once the president of ULS.

Kinobe, who has been the council representative beat his rival, Alice Namuli, with 760 votes against 268 in the highly contested election at Imperial Resort Hotel, Entebbe.

He will replace Francis Gimara, who has held the office for the last two years, lifting the face of ULS to a prestigious position in the country.

Others who won executive offices were Phiona Nabas, who was elected vice-president, Aaron Besigye, who was elected treasurer and Francis Harimomugash, who took the committee's secretary office.

Ann Karungi was voted to represent the central division, whereas Henry Ampulire was voted unopposed to represent the western region. Enoch Kyabakaya will represent the eastern region and Shamim Amolo, the northern region

During the pomp-filled ceremony, Gimara in his farewell speech, described ULS as an outstanding organisation that has a long standing and distinguished 62-year history in supporting and protecting access to justice and rule of law.

Who is Kinobe

Kinobe holds a beachelor's degree of laws from Makerere University and a diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre.

A founding member of KMT (Kinobe, Mutyaba Advocates), Kinobe is an advocate, who specialises in construction law, arbitration and conveyancing. He has in the past served as a senior inspectorate officer in the Inspectorate General of Government's office, lecturer at Kampala International University and also as ULS' central region representative for the last two years.
