Eighty-seven pioneer students have been admitted after a rigorous competitive test.

According to Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng, the university’s vice-chancellor, the course will run for two years and that management is determined to produce quality human resource.

“This is the beginning of good progress at Lira University and I urge people to utilise the opportunity,” he said.

Prof. Balunywa said 80% of people in Uganda produce for self-consumption and that the business class in the country is still small.

He added that many people in Africa have not understood business; that is why they cannot compete with the Western countries such as Japan, Italy and Germany.

The education ministry granted Lira University autonomy on July 1, 2016.
