Rwanda will host this year's CECAFA Women's Championship, slated for May 12 till  20  at Nyamirambo Stadium.

The third edition of this competition was supposed to be hosted in Rwanda late last year but it was postponed for better preparations.

Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia and Djibouti have confirmed their participation for the 2018 tourney.

But Eritrea and South Sudan are yet to confirm their participation for the competition that will be funded by FIFA after being revived in 2016.

Tanzania are the defending champions of the event that was last held in Uganda  (2016) at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

Crested Cranes (national women's team) finished fourth in the last edition.

Meanwhile,  in the last two years, CECAFA made up of countries from Central and East Africa, has failed to organize its two main annual competitions - the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup and the CECAFA Club Championship.
