Uganda Hippos brightened their chances of making it to the 2019 Total U-20 Cup of Nations finals after defeating South Sudan 5-1 on Saturday in the first leg of the first round of qualifiers at Start Times stadium, Lugogo.

Mustapha Kizza who was sent off in the  second half, opened the lead for the Hippos in the 31 minute before Steven Mukwala, Solomon Ovoyo,  Hamis Tibita, Allan Okello added the other goals for Hippos. South Sudan got a consolation goal through Musitafa Mujjuzi's own goal.

The 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will be the 15th edition of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. This is a biennial international youth football tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for players aged 20 and below.   Zambia are the defending champions.

The top four teams after finals in Niger will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland as the CAF representatives.
