Fr Anthony Musaala kneels down to kiss Archbishop Lwanga's ring after apologising

"I turn to you your Grace, the Archbishop, who has endured so many hurts from me. I am truly sorry, especially for doubting your fatherly love. Please forgive me." This is part of the loaded apology that the Rev. Fr. Anthony Musaala, a prodigal Catholic priest, penned as he returned to the Catholic Church fold.

On his knees, amidst cheers from the congregation, Musaala, who had joined the Brazilian Catholic Apostolic Church, on Thursday handed over his letter of apology to Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga during the Chrism Mass at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala.

According to the Catholic doctrine, this Mass is dedicated to renewing the vows of priesthood. The Catholic Church also holds special prayers to bless the oils used in the administration of sacraments.

Fr. Dr. Deogratias Ssonko also renewed his obedience to the Catholic Church, which he left in 2016 to join the Orthodox Church. The two former rebel priests were part of over 100 priests who renewed their vows.

Musaala's ministry in the Catholic Church spans over 25 years, but due to what he described as "sins", he was suspended in 2017 as a priest of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala.
