Rukiga man falls off bridge, dies

RUKIGA - A 73-year-old fell off bridge and died. Vincent Rwendeire, a resident of Nyakafura cell, Rwamucuucu sub-county, Rukiga district died on Monday.

According to residents, Rwendeire is said to have fallen off the bridge at Nyakafura stream at night on his way home from the nearby trading centre.

Eddie Mugisha, the Rwamucucu sub-county councilor, said the bridge, which was recently swept away by floods, has temporary wood on it.

Godfrey Nkurunungi, the headteacher of the neighbouring Nyakafura Primary School, said pupils' lives are at risk because they cross the bridge when going to school.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional Police spokesperson, said that Police visited the scene and cleared residents to proceed with the burial. He said the circumstances behind Rwendeire's death had no criminal connection.

He urged residents to avoid moving late at night.
