UCU wins inter-university quiz

KAMPALA - Students of Uganda Christian University (UCU) walked away with a cash prize of sh2m after winning the first ever inter-university quiz competition on sexual and reproductive health. 

The competition took place at Makerere University in Kampala.

Students from Ndejje University emerged the second and walked away with sh1.5m, while the host University, Makerere, took the third place and was awarded with sh1m.

The competition attracted 10 universities. These are Kampala University, Busitema University, St. Lawrence University, Kyambogo University and Uganda Christian University.

Others are Makerere University, Makerere University Business School, Kampala International University, YMCA and Ndejje University.

The competition tested the students' knowledge in key reproductive health topics such as gender equality, HIV/AIDS, gender- based violence, menstruation, family planning and sexuality.

The competition, which held under the theme "Voices for health campaign" were organised by Reach A Hand Uganda.

The country team leader at Planned Parenthood Global-Uganda, Miriam Tusiimire, applauded the students' knowledge in reproductive health issues. She said knowledge in reproductive health issues is critical in making informed decisions when it comes to sexual and reproductive health services.

"Having this competition in universities is another step in ensuring that our young people are equipped with knowledge and right information on sexual and reproductive health in a fun and interactive way to allow them exchange information," she said

The programmes manager at Reach A Hand Uganda, Issa Buka, said the competition was meant to equip students with sexual and reproductive health information in an edutainment way. "At the end of the day, we wanted all participants to go back to their universities with new knowledge on sexual and reproductive health," he said.

After the competition, artistes such as Navio, Naava Grey, Mun G, Geosteady, Martha Smallz and Nutty Neithan , entertained guests.
