KAMPALA - Urban Television, in partnership with Kunta promotion, has launched a dance competition aimed at discovering and promoting young talents in all regions of the country.

The competition will see the winner walk away with sh30m. The first runner-up will take home sh15m, while the second runner-up will get sh5m

The Urban TV marketing manager for broadcast and digital, Kenneth Oduka, said the competition is aimed at giving exposure to ‘hidden' talented dancers who are in sidelined areas.

"We want to discover unseen talent in the country and give them prominence like their counterparts in urban centres," he said.

He made the remarks during the flagging-off of the national dancing competition at Vision Group head offices in Kampala recently.

Oduka said lack of publicity in most regions of the country has made many dancers in the rural areas unrecognised.

The content manager for Urban TV, Suzan Kavuma, called upon dancers to register as the programme is scheduled to start on April 7.

She said the dancing competition will start on April 7 in Gulu, Mbarara on 14, Mbale 21 then to Kampala on April 28. The competition will be aired on Urban TV.

Eric Lubwama from Kunta Production said the competition will not only make dancers discover their talents, but will also help improve their livelihoods.

He said they are targeting 10 groups of dancer's countrywide; two groups from Mbale, Mbarara, Gulu and four from Kampala. The groups will be combined then the best crew will be selected.

Abdul Abdanger Kinyenya, one of the three judges, assured the dancers that they are ready for the competition.

How to register

According to Oduka, registration is free. The crew had to go to Vision Group head offices and regional offices countrywide to pick the forms and register.

Those who reside in Kampala should pick their forms at Vision Group head offices on First Street Industrial Area. Those in western region should pick theirs in Masaka, Mbarara and Fort Portal, while those in eastern should go to Jinja, Mbale, Soroti and Tororo.

What about the solo dancer?

According to Oduka, the solo dancer has to record a video of him or her dancing and share it on the Urban TV facebook page. The participant should then request friends to vote for him or her.
