Christians have been urged to emulate Saint Joseph in order to preserve their faith as well as their marriages.

Every year on March 19, faithful of the Catholic and Lutheran churches observe Saint Joseph's Day.

Joseph was the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and legal father of Jesus Christ.

According to the Bible, he was told by Angel Gabriel that he would father a baby - Jesus - with Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Fr. Denis Kizito Ssebunya of Mital-Maria Parish said Joseph was obedient and took up the responsibility of taking care of his family.

The priest, speaking on Sunday at Mpigi Catholic Parish, said many families have been ripped apart by misunderstandings that would have otherwise been resolved.

He told particularly couples to stick in their marriages with prayer and the spirit of reconciliation.

"As we celebrate this day, let us pray to St Joseph to continue helping couples and our families, as we emulate him to be good leaders and husbands," Ssebunya urged.

During his delivery, he also called on the people of Mpigi to fight bad practices, such murder and witchcraft.

Meanwhile, the head of laity, Selestino Kaweesa, said the parish is planning to register all Catholics in the parish.
