KAMPALA - The Kanyogoga LC1 chairperson, Emmanuel Masengere, has told the residents that good hygiene starts with an individual.

"To ensure our community is clean, we should first look at the sanitation in our houses and homesteads," he said.

During the cleanup over the weekend, residents of Kanyogoga, one of Kampala's largest slums, were also tipped on hygiene as a necessity for their health and wellbeing.

The exercise, which included collecting rubbish, digging and cleaning trenches and slashing, was conducted by Rotaract Club of Kampala Muyenga Breeze.

It was part of the month-long activities to commemorate the 50th birthday of Rotaract International due tomorrow — March 13.

According to the charter president of the Kampala Muyenga Breeze Club, Jonathan Twinamatsiko, the club partnered with the community, Kanyogoga Police Station and other Rotaract clubs around the city to provide some sanitation measures to the community.

The Kampala Muyenga Breeze is a community-based Rotaract club, with the age group of 18 to 30.

"We chose Kanyogoga as our catchment because of the need, and because we also wanted to start with our community before we go to other places far away," Twinamatsiko said.
