KYOTERA - Asan Kasingye, the Police Chief Political Commissar, on Friday rushed to Kyotera district to assess the security situation and probe circumstances under which 14 suspects escaped from a Police cell.

The senior officer held a meeting with Kyotera district Police commander Musa Kayongo and the OC CID Bibiana Akong at Kyotera Police Station.

However, reporters were not allowed in the premises during the meeting.

According to a police constable, who preferred anonymity, Kasingye grilled all junior and senior staff for duty negligence.

He further revealed six other officers and constables being investigated in addition to Agaba, the cell guard who is already in detention.

"They are suspected to have leaked information about the escape," he said.

Detectives rounded up different constables and confiscated several phones to establish sources that leaked pictures of the cell to the media.

Others were forced to provide their passwords for probing authorities to check through the recent communication.

Kasingye later briefed the flying squad which promised to hunt down and rearrest the suspects.

He cautioned them not to speak to the press on any matter apart from the authorised people.

Lameck Kigozi, the deputy regional Police commander, said they have intensified the hunt for the suspects. Through their intelligence, he says, they will be able to rearrest them.

A few days ago, Asuman Mugyenyi, the head of Police Operations Directorate and Kasingye launched joint operations a Greater Masaka regional dubbed ‘Dumisha Usalama', (Keeping Safety).

The operation draws all security agencies to collaborate in different operations. It basically focuses on popularising community policing to combat crime.
