A woman has accused the unlawfully detaining her beyond the stipulated time and released her with no charge.

Racheal Atwongyeire, 26, a resident of Ntinda, Kampala alleges that she was arrested by plain clothed security operatives and bundled into a speeding white car whose registration she does not remember.

"They grabbed me and put me in the car and later sped off to a place I did not know. I was kept there for days without access to my family. They accused me of organising an unlawful assembly because of my activities with the Forum for Democratic Change," Atwongyeire said in an interview with the New Vision.

A family member who prefered not to be named said her sister has been missing for several days and they had reported the case to the Police.

The family said the had not knowledge of Atwongyeire's whereabouts.

However, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Emilian Kayima could not readily respond to the accusations because he was in a meeting.

Uganda Police has been accused by Human Rights organisations of violating several rights especially the right to assembly.
