KAMPALA - President Yoweri Museveni has held a meeting with members of the Bohra Community of Uganda, who called on him yesterday at State House, Entebbe.

The Bohra group is a sect within the Ismaili branch of Shia Islam, whose subscribers are mainly found in Pakistan, Yemen and East Africa.

Their Supreme leader, His Holiness Syedna Aaliqadr Mufadaal Saifuddin, is slated to visit Uganda to launch the Bohra Community Mosque at Bukasa in Muyenga, Kampala.

The worldwide number of Bohras is estimated at over one million, while in East Africa, they are estimated at 15,000.

The Muslim community assured the President that they have invested in Uganda and would like to invest more

Speaking during the meeting, Kausar Najinuddin, the head of the delegation, told President Museveni that before the expulsion of Asians by the Amin regime in 1973, the number of Bohra Muslims was estimated at 4,000.

Najinuddin also informed the President that his community would like to invest more in Uganda, adding that the community had already invested in affordable real estate, agriculture (coffee plantations) and manufacturing (steel, pipes and gas cylinders).

He commended President Museveni for pushing for the integration of East Africa, adding that this would widen market opportunities for manufacturers in the region.
