Uganda Laser Open
Friday-Sunday

The annual Uganda Laser Open is frighteningly competitive. Ten races, three days of action and a cast of both local and foreign top sailors.

That said, it is a must attend of sorts for potential sailors and water sports enthusiasts as this year's edition gets underway today at the Murchison bay in Kaazi.

Hosted by the Victoria Nyanza Sailing Club (VNSC), atleast 30 sailors are expected to compete in the club's flagship event.

David Caroll from Kenya will hope to defend the contest in a group of seasoned sailors that include his compatriot Alastair Bush. Stephen Luswata, Kim Bowerman and Reint Bakema carry Uganda's hopes.

They should also be wary of headstrong Tanzanians and some UK sailors who are up for the challenge.

Conversely, Annabel Bowerman seeks to defend the Uganda Laser Woman Champion accolade but 13-year-old Rosa Rafanomezana and Beatrice Nassanga stand strong in her glorious pursuit.

Meanwhile, other recognitions include Youth champion (best of all competitors aged 0 - 30), Apprentice champion (best of all competitors age 31 - 50), Senior champion (best of all competitors age 51-100) and handicap winner (best of all VNSC members based on the VNSC handicap).
