KAMPALA - The president and chief executive of GE (General Electric) Healthcare Africa is in the country for a two-day visit.

Farid Fezoua, who jetted in Thursday morning, met health minister Jane Aceng in Kampala later in the day.

He is scheduled to meet other key stakeholders in the healthcare sector.

Fezoua's visit comes only a week after the Joint EAC heads of state retreat on infrastructure and health financing and development held in Kampala.

During that meeting, President Yoweri Museveni said the EAC expects the health sector to contribute significantly to the economy.

This is through creation of new jobs, proliferation of innovations, expansion of manufacturing of medicines, health technologies and medical tourism.

In fact, Fezoua's visit underlines the fact that Uganda is fast-becoming a destination of choice for investment.

The company that he has a leading role in is an American multinational conglomerate headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts (USA).

In neighbouring Kenya recently, GE Healthcare was named as a key technology partner for a wide-scale radiology infrastructure modernisation programme.

The Managed Equipment Service (MES) 9 programme aimed at transforming 98 hospitals across the east African nation's 47 counties via a comprehensive and wing-to-wing solution package.

It was part of the Kenyan government's $420b healthcare transformation programme to deliver sustainable healthcare development.

GE Healthcare's involvement illustrated its commitment to serving as a strategic partner to Kenya and Africa at large, as well as supporting sustainable economic growth.

General Electric is one of the strongest and largest companies in the world based on its almost $150 billion yearly revenue and being the oldest company in Dow Stocks Market.
