Army court cancels bail of three Police officers

KAMPALA - The General Court Martial on Tuesday cancelled the bail of three Police officers, before remanding them to Makindye military barracks after adjourning the case until March 27.

The officers are battling charges of kidnap alongside Nixon Agasirwe and Joel Aguma, also of Police.

Army court chairperson Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti adjourned the case despite pleas to have all police officers be released.

Defence lawyer Caleb Alaka had read out a court order issued by Justice Margaret Oguli-Oumo directing that the army court has no powers to prosecute Aguma and co.

"The accused, being serving police officers, are not subject to military law," Alaka submitted.

Frank Kanduho is the other lawyer on the defence team.

Prosecution alleges that the accused kidnapped Jackson Kalemera alias Ndinga and Joel Mutabazi and took them to Rwanda without their consent. Mutabazi was a former bodyguard of Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

Acccording to prosecution, the accused conveyed Kalemera and Mutabazi to Rwanda on October 25, 2013, at Kamengo in Mpigi district while in illegal possession of firearms and grenades.
