KAMPALA - Are you a Senior Six or Senior Four drop out whose hope of continuing with school has been shuttered, do not lose hope, consider taking on a hands-on course that will change your life.

One of the hands-on courses that you should consider is fashion designing.

“It is intriguing, fun and with passion and right attitude, you can make it in life,” notes Vicky Hairwe, the director of Ebenezar Bridal School.

She notes that after her Senior Six, she enrolled at Popo Polytechnic Institute for a fashion and designing course for two years and her life has never been the same. Hairwe graduated and immediately started working. Later, she was called back to teach at the institute and this made her more proud of the course she had pursued.

Today, Hairwe is skilling school dropouts in fashion and design, bridal care, while building their confidence to face the outside world.

Hairwe notes that if people can only change the way they think about vocational courses, then the job-search issue will be no more.

She adds that people related fashion and designing to tailoring, clarifying that the course goes beyond just tailoring.

Hairwe says the course entails things like how to come up with a good design for a client and make her stand out of the many. It could be a cloth of the same fabric but a fashion designer is challenged with making an outfit that is unique and that is how one makes the money.

She adds that with such a course, one can employ herself and others and in case they want to further their studies, paying their tuition is possible.

Suzan Kaddu, a fashion designer at U and Me Bridals, notes that with this course, one learns on job as it is easy to market oneself.

“You get to know how to dress and from what you wear, clients start asking you where you buy your clothes or who makes your outfits. That alone gives you hope that you took the right path,” Kaddu says.

She advises those pursuing such a course to do it with passion.

“Do not look at yourself as a failure, but rather focus on what you can do for now, the results will be overwhelming and you will not regret,” Kaddu advises.
