KAMPALA - Despite starting this year's CAF Champions League campaign on low note, KCCA defender Timothy Awanyi believes this is the time his side needs to make a statement on the continent.

Last weekend, KCCA went down 2-1 to CNaPS Sport at Mahamasina Municipal Stadium in Antananarivo, Madagscar.

"We have showed that playing on the continent is a habit and now we have to progress to greater heights. Playing on the continent alone is not enough, but progressing to bigger stages is what will make us a force to reckon with on the continent," Awanyi said.

He added: ‘We the players know how huge the task at hand is and we are ready to show why we are champions of Uganda. We have proved this at the domestic level that we are a class above the rest and now it is time for us to show this class on the continent. Last year, we narrowly missed qualifying for the quarter finals of the CAF Confederations Cup, but that is all gone. We cannot change the past, but we have a responsibility to do our best in the future".

KCCA needs only 1-0 win against CNaPS  Sport in the return leg that will be held on February 21 at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo to progress to the first round of the event.

The winner between both sides will either face Ethiopia's St George or South Sudan's Al Salam Wau.
