A home win for gritty Musagala

Trust Ronald Musagala when it comes to basking in the limelight.

The national 1500 metre record holder had one of his best days at the National Cross-country in Jinja on Saturday.

Musagala anchored his team to the mixed relays victory. That this happened on the Uganda Wildlife Authority athlete's home soil had Musagala on cloud nine.

Well into the lead in the final lap, a smiling Musagala was already waving to spectators and even throwing high fives.

Equally excited was the fairly big crowd at the Central Division Recreation Park.

He was further fi red up by the emcee, another Musoga, who equally made the best in highlighting the need to light up the vast talent that abounds in the region.

"The Basoga should rise and run. It's one way of sharing the national cake. Musagala is proof that we can also dominate athletics."

"It feels great to run at home. Most of my brothers here have never seen me run. There is nothing better than home support," said Musagala after crossing the finishing line.

His prayer is that more Basoga can run.

"It would be lovely if more Basoga won at such national events."

Musagala and team-mates Winnie Nanyondo, Abou Mayanja and Halima Nakaayi celebrated the victory by dancing to Lusoga songs.

It was the third time that the mixed relays were being held.

The Sabiny who dominated the other events were equally thrilled. They toasted to their victories by dancing to their traditional hits that blared from the public address.
