LIRA - The accountant of Uganda Technical College Lira has been arrested as a forensic audit into allegations of mismanagement of finances in the college commences.

Silver Agama was picked by the Lira Central Police Station Police Thursday and held for several hours as he underwent interrogation.

Following reports from whistleblowers, the college has been under scrutiny, with the principal, Buchan Nathan Talwana, who was sent on forced leave, being the first culprit.

Without divulging details, the district Police commander (DPC), Ambrose Sabiti, confirmed the arrest, saying they had been directed by the Director of Public Prosecutions to carry out thorough investigations on the college.

However, sources revealed that Agama will be investigated for, among others, the loss of several millions of shillings, including sh400m, that was meant for the replacement of asbestos roof at the college that went missing. 

By Thursday evening, Agama had been released on Police bond.

Lira district chairperson, Alex Oremo told the media that the ministry was yet to send someone to run the institution.
