Black Pearls 24 Thunderbirds 28

A month into the five-team Women's Rugby League season and we are no closer to knowing which team can put up a challenge good enough to stop defending champions Entebbe Ladies.

Over the weekend, while the Entebbe Ladies took a break, the Black Pearls hosted the Thunderbirds in Jinja with second place at stake.

Due to the fact that both teams are close on the table and in ability calling the match was going to be a difficult task for anyone.

In a match that was a see-saw, the Thunderbirds stayed the course to narrowly win against the Pearls to give Entebbe who are unbeaten, the advantage.

At the end of the day the team that wanted it the most took it.

The Black Pearls went down valiantly in a 24-28 loss and Thunderbirds team manager Dorothy Nekesa was happy that her side won the match after the way the Pearls brought the game to her team.

"This match was a much bigger contest from the opposition compared to the usual.

"The Black Pearls were composed of the best from Eastern and Northern Uganda and they reminded us that we need to work more on fitness and endurance," Nekesa said.

The Thunderbirds renew rivalries with the Black Panthers at Kyadondo while the Black Pearls will host the relentless Entebbe Ladies in Jinja.

Action continues at the weekend.
