Brian Gwaaka will put Uganda’s seed one Onesmus Atamba’s chances of winning the men’s Most Valuable Players (MVP) award to the test Saturday when the local woodball body UWbF rewards its best performers of the 2017 season at Cooper Chimney, Lugogo.

The Zoe woodball team player Gwaaka had a fruitful 2017 season after he topped the men’s beach table with a tally of 111points in four circuits with fi ve points ahead of Abednego Okello and Ronald Kawumba in second and third place tied at 106 points each.

He also won the national open and fi nished in third position at the Presidents Cup and the Uganda International Open.

Meanwhile, his colleague Atamba from Ndejje corporate club won gold at the inaugural Woodball Beach World Cup in Indonesia, but did not win any local event last year.

However, UWbF Chief Executive Offi cer (CEO) Baptist Kateregga says the fi nal decision will be announced by the technical committee today evening.

“It is a tough decision, but the committee in-charge is working on that. Both Atamba and Gwaaka had a good season but there has to be
just one winner at the end of it all,” said Kateregga.

The other nominee for the men’s MVP award is Israel Muwanguzi who won the Uganda International woodball open last year at Kisubibeach.

Meanwhile, the women’s MVP award is most likely to go to Joyce Nalubega following her outstanding records for the year 2017.

The Ndejje University student put up a surprise performance to win the beach circuit with a tally of 78 points in four circuits while her challengers Moreen Kirungi and Joan Mukoova fi nished in 73 and 64 points in second and third positions.

The 21 year-old also won the President’s Cup, Ndejje Open and Kyambogo Open last year.
