Basalaine together with three other juniors were disqualified.

Despite winning the overall prize of a DStv Explorer, national junior team player Joel Basalaine will play no further part in the Singleton match play championships after being disqualified for not meeting the conditions of play for the event.

Basalaine together with three other juniors; Edwin Okong, Michael Alunga and Dennis Onyango were also disqualified on similar grounds, while five others were eliminated from the competition after being found to be student members, caddies, artisans and or being non full members of UGU affiliated clubs .

They included Martha Babirye, Maureen Okura, Yusuf Ssentongo, Rodwell Gaita, Ashraf Bagalana and Noah Waibi.

"Following the conclusion of the qualification round of the Singleton match play championship 2018, the golf committee received numerous petitions alleging ineligibility of some players. The committee investigated the allegations and found evidence confirming some allegations as true and disqualifying the affected from the series," a statement from the Entebbe Golf captain Edwin Tumusiime read.

Consequently, the committee worked with the sponsors to fill the spots left by the disqualified players and two other pairs (Charles Hamya+Joseph Bogera and Jonathan Bakwega+Patrick Mugisha) were brought on board on a sponsor wild card.

Sam Kacungira, Vincent Katutsi, David Odhiama and Joseph Galiwango were also drafted in the first round draw on the basis of their superb qualifying round. The first round will be held on February 17.
