Orthodox bishop urges servant leadership

Presiding over the Christmas Liturgy at St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, Namungoona, the Orthodox Metropolitan of the Holy Metropolis of Kampala and All Uganda, His Eminence Jonah Lwanga asked politicians to exercise "servant leadership," in order to make Uganda enjoyable for all its citizens.

"Jesus Christ, whose nativity we celebrate today, preached servant leadership during his ministry.  Our politicians must always remember that they are not in power to serve their own desires, but to promote and protect the common good of the people who elected them.  Let our legislators always remember that the offices they are occupying were given to them by God, to serve his people," Lwanga said.

Lwanga asked Christians to renew their Christian commitment by living out the values of Christianity. He expressed concern that many Christians were paying lip-service to the faith and sometimes even questioned and disregarded the very faith that they profess.

"Brethren, let us be mindful that the devil is always present to fight Jesus's Kingdom of peace, justice and righteousness. So, let us always strive for holiness," the Prelate said.
