CRIME  IGANGA

Police in Iganga are holding a 35-year-old peasant farmer for attempting to murder his wife after she caught him red-handed with another woman in a rice swamp.

The accused, Julius Tenywa, had been hired to scare away birds at a rice swamp, but was caught with another woman by his wife, Ruth Namuleeme.

Namuleeme says she made an alarm and confronted her husband, while the woman ran away. The couple quarreled and Namuleeme returned home to her children.

Tenywa, on returning home, quarreld with his wife and in anger, chopped off both her hands and the leg of their two-year-old son, before running away.

He was arrested moments later at an incomplete building in Nabikoote village, almost thirty kilometers away from their home.

Bufamba said Namuleeme had on several occasions accused her husband of infidelity.

Police rushed Namuleeme and the child to Iganga Main hospital.

The district police commander Iganga, Nassibu Nditta, said Tenywa will appear before court to answer two counts of attempted murder of his wife and child.

Nditta urged couples to always seek counselling whenever they have some misunderstandings, so as to avoid similar incidents.
