Suspected highway robbers stone buses along Luweero-Nakasongola stretch

Suspected highway robbers have ambushed and stoned five passenger buses at Luweero-Nakasongola boarder.
The Monday night incident at Nalongo village in Luweero nearer to Nakasongola district happened at between 2:00 and 3:00am as the passenger buses were returning to Kampala.
The affected buses belonged to different companies. The culprits who are still at large were targeting to hit drivers to lose control and crush so that they rob passengers.
Two of the targeted buses which included GaaGaa and Makone coaches had their windscreens damaged, but drivers and passengers did not sustain any injuries.
Willy Abaha, the Luweero district traffic officer said drivers of respective affected buses recorded statements.
He said they have not made any arrests, but the investigations have already kicked off through engaging area crime preventers and Police detectives.
Other stoned buses included KKT, Good Luck and Robbin Coaches
Charles Sebambulidde, the traffic Police spokesperson said stoning buses along Luweero-Nakasongola stretch has been on for some time and culprits targets sports where buses slow down.
He said the integrated highway patrol has already been notified about the problems and handing the matter.
"Neither passengers nor drivers were affected during the attack, but we advise public transport operators to take precautionary measures when travelling at night," said Ssebambulidde
James Nyakuni, the proprietor of GaaGaa coaches said they are facing it rough with stoning of their buses mainly during the festive seasons.
He said several other buses have for long been stoned on different highways, but normally culprits have been failing to achieve their selfish ends.
Yunus Kiggundu, the chairperson for United Bus Drivers Association (UBDA) and also a driver attached to Felister Coaches said the Police need to beef up security at all highways.
